
Ran a department specific Lean overview with the 21 members of the speech and language therapy team and they have generated several project ideas they want to do already! As part of the overview I was explaining the difference between value added and non-value added activities. Just to bring it home I asked: "so in a typical working week how much time do you spend actually doing direct SLT work with patients?" What do you think their reply was?
Friday was spent with the Cancer Services Manager looking at the Breast Cancer referral pathway in light of the impending 2 week target for all breast referrals (including all non-fast-track). A bit of pathway and I expect the next session for us to be looking at the capacity demand and variation of attendance, procedure and outcome of the breast clinic.
